We are recruiting a highly motivated senior trainee in Orthopaedic/Plastic Surgery to join our Upper Limb Fellowship, with two 12-month post starting in August 2018. The Fellowship provides exposure and training in all aspects of upper limb surgery, including open surgery, arthroscopic surgery, image-guided surgery and microsurgery for degenerative, inflammatory and traumatic conditions affecting the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder and peripheral nerves.

The post will be based at Wrightington Hospital with clinical commitments at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary and Leigh Infirmary. One consultant also runs an outreach clinic in Noble’s Hospital, Isle of Man once very two months. Wrightington hospital is located 5 miles north west of Wigan, situated just half a mile from junction 27 off the M6 motorway.

You must be fully registered with a licence to practice with the GMC and candidates with FRCS (Tr&Orth / Plas) or equivalent will be preferred.

The successful applicant will be responsible for obtaining approval from the Postgraduate Dean, Training Programme Director and GMC prior to starting the Fellowship in order for the training to count towards their award of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT). Salary will be on the appropriate point of the Specialist Trainee salary scale.

Research and publications are an integral part of the Fellowship. We have a dedicated research department with access to an on-site library and excellent links with the Universities of Manchester, Salford, Lancashire and Edge Hill. We run a dynamic teaching programme and fellows also have access to the HTA-approved bioskills cadaveric laboratory. Fellows are actively encouraged to attend and participate in courses and conferences that are organised by the Unit.
